With COVID still present we felt that it was still not wise to arrange our traditional event (based on a coach journey around Cobbett locations). We have instead planned a visit to the Gilbert White Museum and Gardens, Selborne, Hampshire GU34 3JH. Gilbert White – the ‘first naturalist’ – died in 1793 when Cobbett was 28, but there is an overlap with Cobbett’s love of the countryside. The plan is that members will make their own way to the Museum for a visit from mid morning to mid afternoon including tea/coffee & lunch; talks from the staff about the Museum and Gardens – and plenty of time to visit both; appropriate Cobbett readings; and for the energetic walks around Selborne Hangar.
Details and cost will be available later. (There will be a charge – apologies for the incorrect and misleading note ‘free’ opposite)
